Getting help is not always easy as a new dietitian. Where do you find a good program? Who can you ask for help? Where should you even start? Here’s a quick list of dietitians, programs, and organizations that can help you get where you want to go.

Where to go for help in clinical nutrition

  1. Nutrition Cheat Sheets (resources and judgment-free clinical support): You’re already here so you’re half way there. Take a look at all our downloadable resources, past podcasts and webinars, and courses along with the other posts on our blog.
  2. Nutrition Counseling Academy (counseling support from a PhD and RD): Joyce has programs on motivational interviewing and nutrition counseling, has run groups focusing on menopause, and hosts an annual summit to help you get better with counseling. She also has a free Facebook group to get you started.
  3. MINT: Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (when you’re ready to double down on your motivational interviewing skills): Learn to train other professionals to use motivational interviewing skills in their work when you become certified through MINT.
  4. Facebook Groups (free professional support through active online communities): Join groups on everything from building a private practice with insurance and billing, functional nutrition, virtual assistance, general questions from a huge group of dietitians with Unconventional RD, questions about LTC and Rehab for RDs, support for dietitians who write, and also groups for those who teach
  5. Nutrition Jobs (all things job related, provided by an RD): Stacey has a site full of advice on things like salary negotiations, creating better resumes, and becoming more confident during interviews. And of course, she has a ton of job listings.
  6. Alissa Rumsey (entrepreneur support and intuitive eating RD): Alissa should be one of your go-to resources if you’re looking to either start or sustain a company that aligns with your personal values. Or you want to learn more about how to incorporate intuitive eating into your practice. 
  7. Diversify Dietetics (everything to support BIPOC dietitians):  There’s not much Diversify Dietetics doesn’t do. Here you can access mentorship opportunities, take specialized workshops like media training, and build the kind of community that can help you feel more connected to the work you’re striving to do.
  8. Amy Gorin (media training for dietitians): Amy has been working in media for years and has a lot of resources to help you build a solid and effective media presence. 
  9. Well Resourced Dietitian (a marketplace for dietitians): Looking for business templates? Need a few specialized patient education resources? This should be your first stop if you’re looking for anything related to working in nutrition provided by RDs you can trust.
